“Foreigners in!”

DEMNER, MERLICK & BERGMANN counters Swiss referendum on “Mass Immigration”

Quite a few people here think everything is better in Switzerland. The small middle European country grows, by immigration, by about 80,000 people each year – leading to a foreigner rate of about 23%. Besides the high standard of living, there is further reason for immigration: for years, Swiss businesses have been voicing a need for skilled workers, amongst others Germans and Austrians. However recently the Swiss made a peculiar decision and consented to an initiative of the conservative right SVP against EU migration: 50.3% voted in support of the referendum against “Mass-immigration” and subsequently limited immigration in the communications sector. In this political climate DEMNER, MERLICEK & BERGMANN now brings a fresh breeze: In an unusual job posting is a picture of a Massai Warrior with the title “Foreigners In”. This way, the agency is trying to get young Swiss creatives to - at least for a while - escape the monoculture and work in Vienna.

Mariusz Jan Demner: “We want to, just like in previous years, tell the creative minds in Switzerland where in Europe their talent is, without limit, appreciated, encouraged and in demand – regardless of where it is from.”

Not everywhere does the agency fall on open ears, recently the administrator of a job site blocked the upload of this provoking motive.
