ZOOM Children’s Museum:
DEMNER, MERLICEK & BERGMANN treads new ways for PR with students. A delightful task for the creatives of D,M&B: The Viennese children’s museum Zoom provides absolutely innovative and in professional circles globally recognized educational work, but has – so far – not made a big fuss of that fact.
In times where public attention has gained increasing significance for all museums and educational institutes – also while competing for public and private sponsors – it was high time for an initiative.
The international Miffy Award ceremony was used as the reason to seek professional help. DEMNER, MERLICEK & BERGMANN turned it into a greatly followed press-event, by ensuring help of the most competent and most engaged PR-people: those of the children.
A class of the Rahlsstreet high school, together with the agency, held a workshop on how to organize and structure a press conference, how to get the attention of the mainstream media in the country, how to as a kid ask celebrities and journalists questions, and how to portray the importance of the children’s museum itself.
The spotlight was on the Miffy Award – a lifetime achievement award – which was awarded to ZOOM children’s museum by the European Museum Academy and the hands on! International Association of Children in Museum for its engagement and its innovative work amongst others with children.
City Counsel for Cultural Affairs Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny and ‘Emperor’ Robert Palfrader quickly agreed to hold the press conference together with ZOOM Director Dr. Elisabeth Menasse-Wiesbauer and ZOOM Founding Director Dr. Claudia Haas. Mariusz Jan Demner chaired the event together with the class representatives.
The response was pleasing: for example, Puls4 in Café Puls had two students as live guests in their studio, Ö1 featured a story immediately after the event and newspapers and magazines featured a story, including Presse, Krone and Heute.
