Advertising as art. ‘Look Twice’ campaign for the Styrian Autumn in the current ‘BrandSchutz // Attitudes of Intolerance’ – exhibition in Jena

In Germany, Jena to be exact, the exhibition ‘BrandSchutz // Attitudes of Intolerance’ can be seen until November 17th. BrandSchutz - a joint project of the Department of Art History at the University of Jena, and the Jena Art Association, initiated this exhibition.

This exhibition combines contemporary artistic point of views that deal with the intolerant attitudes/behaviors of society in subtle or provocative, ironic or emotionally touching ways. 21 pieces of art from German, as well as international artist are being displayed.

Right in the middle: The campaign designed for the Styrian Autumn 2012 ‘Look Twice – Rediscovering European Muslims’. The campaign shows how easy it is for anyone to be prejudice and judge rashly. The centerpiece is the poster shown in the exhibition, seemingly in Arabic script, but look at it again and one can read it.
The message: ‘At first glance many things seem incomprehensible.’

‘We are thrilled that our campaign – which erases the lines between art and advertising – can move people beyond Austria to question their prejudices’, so Mariusz Jan Demner.

Verena Krieger, Co-Initiator and Director of the BrandSchutz project: ’We chose “Look Twice” because the motive itself expresses the concern of BrandSchutz to question the own point of view with a fascinating simple, yet involving piece of work.’
